Jaipur Camel festival begins today

The Jaipur Camel Festival featuring dances and other entertaining activities by the 'ships of the deserts' begins today. The three-day festival in Rajasthan will have camel dance, camel decoration competitions, camel fur cutting competitions and other activities. "The festival is an attempt to showcase camels and spread an awareness towards the animal," District Collector Alok Gupta said. It would be a visual treat for tourists who have gathered in Bikaner for the festival, Gupta added. Thousands of specators, including over 500 foreign tourists, will take part in the festival and administration has made elaborate arrangements for it. The festival started 15 years back and is getting popular every year when we compare the flow of tourists during the event, a senior official said.
