Huge rush of tourists to Shimla for New Year

Thousands of tourists thronged this picturesque hill resort to celebrate the New Year as high-velocity icy winds lashing the town brought down the temperature, offering a perfect setting for holidaymakers. All the 800-odd hotels in the town are full to their capacity and even the corridors of some have been rented out. The hotels have arranged special grand gala nights. The district administration has allowed the opening of shops till midnight. More than 400 police constables were deployed in various parts of the city, including the Mall and the Ridge. The administration has also allowed parking of the vehicles on the restricted roads. However, no parking is allowed on the main roads blocking the traffic. Though there is no hope of snowfall, the whole region is in the grip of severe cold wave. High-velocity icy winds have been lashing the town since morning and the temperature have come down considerably.
