Handicrafts bazaar coming up near Shimla

Tourists visiting the hill resort of Shimla will soon be able to shop for unique handicrafts of Himachal Pradesh at a bazaar to be modelled on the lines of Dilli Haat in Delhi. It will be located at Kiari bungalow, a popular halt 22 km from Shimla on the Kalka-Shimla highway. Officials said the land site had been finalised and would be purchased soon by the tourism department, said its director Tarun Siridhar. Himachal Pradesh, nestled in the Himalayas, can boast of a tradition of fine handicrafts that include Kullu and Kinnauri shawls, caps, dolls, mufflers, Chamba handkerchiefs, Chamba sandals and metallic deity masks. The project was finalised some two years ago in Kullu Valley but it got delayed due to non-availability of suitable land.
