AAI planning night parking facility at Vadodara Airport
In order to ease the increasing traffic at international airports in Mumbai and Dehli, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) is planning to develop night parking facilities for aircrafts at airports located in the cities near to these international airports. As part of this strategy, Vadodara will soon have a night parking facility to ease traffic congestion at Mumbai airport. Amit Bajpai, director, Vadodara airport, said, “We have already set the ball the rolling for setting up night parking facility at Vadodara airport. Tenders have also been issued and we intend to make it functional as soon as possible”. The proposed night parking facility is likely to cost around Rs 13 crore and initially, the proposed facility will have the capacity to accommodate eight aircrafts.
In addition to this, AAI also plans to set up a cargo facility at Vadodara. Currently, pre-feasibility study is being carried on. However, after the completion of the study and evaluating the nature of cargo to be handled by the airport, final decisions will be taken. According to sources, Vadodara airport has Airbus parking facility and with an investment of Rs 8 crore work is also on to construct three more Airbus parking places. The work is likely to be completed by March-2007. All these facilities will enable Vadodara airport to handle seven big or nine small aircrafts at a time. The airport has sufficient land, which will used to expand some of the facilities at the airport. Moreover, the airport is also being equipped with modern fire fighting equipments at a cost of Rs 2.8 crore.
