Air India flight lands safely after brakes catch fire

An Air India flight from Paris landed safely and without injuries at Newark International Airport last night when a set of brakes caught fire minutes before landing, officials said. Flight 191, with an estimated 289 passengers and crew members on board, landed without incident on schedule at about 7:40 p.m., Port Authority spokesman Tony Ciavolella said. The fire began minutes before the Boeing 777 aircraft landed when hydraulic fluid dripped onto the brakes, Ciavolella said. The pilot radioed in a report of the fire before he landed, and the fire was put out by a ground handler before firefighters arrived, the spokesman said.
