Mr. Thulasidas gets extension as Air India CMD
The government has decided to retain Mr V Thulasidas, an IAS officer of the 1972 batch, as chairman & managing director of Air-India to facilitate merger of the national carrier with Indian. The appointments committee of cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of tenure, highly-placed government sources said. It is understood that the civil aviation ministry proposed extension to Mr Thulasidas ‘till further orders’ since the grand plan to merger Air-India and Indian is at a crucial stage. The Manipur-Tripura cadre officer’s tenure was coming to an end on December 22. Formal orders would be issued on Thursday, the sources said. The merger of A-I and Indian has already been cleared by a committee of secretaries headed by cabinet secretary B K Chaturvedi. A group of ministers, headed by external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee, is expected to consider the merger proposal now.
