Flight operations normal in Delhi after night of fog disruptions
Flights took off on schedule at the Delhi airport Thursday morning with no impeding fog after several in-coming flights were delayed by hours or diverted the night before due to a heavy blanket of mist. According to Delhi International Airport authorities, a number of flights Wednesday night were diverted to places like Jaipur and Lucknow. Fifteen Delhi-bound flights, including three of Air Sahara and three Jet Airways, were delayed as well as one Spice Jet from Bangalore. One Air India flight from Dubai was diverted to Jaipur. "A thick blanket of fog engulfed the sky and visibility was below 500 metres late Wednesday night. Only one runway was operational after 11 p.m. as strong winds and thick fog made it difficult to open the second runway," said a Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) spokesperson. Former Gujarat chief minister Keshubhai Patel and Bollywood actor Chunky Pandey were among the passengers stranded for hours at the airport. The flights that landed in Delhi were four-five hours behind time. The visibility improved after 2.30 a.m. allowing for airplanes to take off and land.
