Fog disrupts flights again at Delhi airport
Dozens of flight schedules were disrupted at the Delhi airport as a thick blanket of fog reduced the runway visibility, resulting in chaos for the second consecutive day Friday. One Air Deccan Flight to Srinagar had to be cancelled. According to the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), heavy fog reduced the visibility to below 200 metres at around 7.00 a.m. Only one runway was operational due to the bad light conditions. "The visibility has improved substantially and flights have started taking off and landing in the airport. By 10.30 a.m. the runway visibility was over 900 metres," said Aniruddha Chatterjee, chief spokesperson of DIAL. "But there was no diversion of domestic flights today," he said. On Thursday, several flights were diverted to Lucknow and Jaipur. However, authorities admitted that passengers were facing problems in getting their baggage in time. Despite a backlog, officials said 35 domestic flights had taken off and 16 had arrived so far. Similarly, 13 international flights landed and 12 took off after the visibility improved.
