Trident Hilton at new Bangalore Airport

The Bangalore International Airport Limited has selected the Oberoi group to operate a 5-star hotel under the brand name Trident Hilton. "This truly will be the first airport hotel in India, within walking distance from the terminal building," a BIAL statement said. BIAL is a public limited company formed to build, own and operate the largest greenfield private sector-owned and operated airport in India- the Bangalore International Airport. Nearly 42 per cent of the construction at the site, started 17 months ago, is complete as of November-end, it was stated. The runway will have a length of 4,000 metres and a width of 45 metres. On the human resource aspect, BIAL currently has a headcount of 56 which will further go up to more than 350 people by the end of 2007, the statement said.

A consortium, consisting of Skytanking and Indian oil, will build and operate the fuel farm and hydrant system of the airport. Two consortia, consisting of SATS/Air India and Bobba Group/Menzies Aviation, will build and operate two state-of-the-art general cargo warehouses for both domestic as well as international cargo. LSG Sky Chefs and Taj SATS have been selected as flight caterers for the airport. Consortia of Globeground India on the one hand and Air India/Singapore Air Terminal services are responsible for providing ground handling services and for procuring the ground handling equipment required for operation at the airport.
