Himachal's tribal festival a major tourist attraction
The four-day tribal festival in Himachal Pradesh featuring tribal life, culture and folk music of Kinnaur is a big draw for the tourists coming to the state. Snow-clad Kinner Kailash mountain range makes it an ideal venue at Reckong Peo, the district headquarters of Kinnaur. Thousands
of tribals and tourists make it to the festival of fun and frolic in the picturesque landscape.
The colourful festival got underway on Monday with a tribal dance. A Madhya Pradesh folk dance also enthralled the spectators where a Rajasthani cultural troupe also presented an energetic and live Ghoomar dance. Dance performances by troupes from Sirmaur, north zone cultural centre Patiala and a few local musical groups were other major attractions on the opening day.
Art and craft exhibitions share a centre stage at the annual festival where handicraft items are picked up readily by the foreign tourists. A huge local crowd was also seen purchasing variety of things, as the festival comes just after the harvest season. Traders from other parts of the country are participating actively in the festival. As many as 120 stalls have been set up by traders from Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttaranchal and Assam and other parts of the country.
