Finnair starts Delhi-Helsinki direct flight
Finnair Monday started its first direct flight between Helsinki and Delhi. The six-and-a-half hour flight will initially run three times a week, using MD-11 wide-bodied aircraft. "By next spring, the frequency of the flight will be boosted to five times a week," said deputy CEO, Finnair, Henrik Arle.
"Helsinki-New Delhi is the shortest route between the European Union and India, so it is of genuine interest to travellers between the destinations," he added. "Advance demand for this route has been great, even though we are only just starting the flights. We have also seen a big increase in demand for air cargo from India to Europe."
The flights from Helsinki will reach here on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and the return flights will be available on the following days. The Delhi route is Finnair's 10th Asian destination and a continuation of the company's strategy to focus on Asia.
