Dial 24 hour call centre for new AC taxis in Mumbai

Mumbaikars have finally got an option to say good-bye to the age old Black and Yellow Taxis as they can now avail the services of new air-conditioned Maruti-Esteem, Tata Indigo cars fitted with GPS/GPRS system which can be booked by just dialling the 24 hrs call-centre. Mumbai based Fulora Foundation would manage this fleet service with 100 plus vehicles hitting the road in next two days.

Mumbai Taxi Company Pvt Ltd and Mumbai Gold Cabs Pvt Ltd have joined this Foundation with 100 vehicles each.

The prices in this new Fleet of Taxis would be Rs 15 for initial one kilometer and Rs 13 for every subsequent kilometer and 25 per cent extra would be charged for any travel between midnight 12 and five in the morning.

"To begin with we would start with a fleet size of around 100 plus vehicles in the next two days and aim to bring 5,000 vehicles under this service in next one years time," Fulora Foundation Managing Trustee, Arun Sabnis said here today.

The company has made an investment of Rs 650 crore to begin with and this was supported by ICICI and State Bank of India in this public-private partnership, he added.

The drivers of the vehicles would be the equity holders in the scheme. Any person coming with his old vehicle would be given Rs 30-35,000 which would be redeployed as equity in the company. The new vehicles would then be leased to them, said Sabnis.

This new fleet service was today inaugurated by Chief Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh who also handed over the permit to the first few drivers of the fleet service. "The start of this service is another step in the direction of making Mumbai a world class city," he said.
