Goa carnival starts from Feb 17th
Goa will usher in four-day-long eat, drink and be merry extravaganza when the traditional carnival celebrations begins from February 17th. The state tourism department will host special carnival parades in cities starting from Panaji on the first day. "We are expecting at least 30,000 tourists to visit during these days as carnival is a special occasion for Goa," a tourism department official said. Deputy Chief Minister Wilfred D'Souza, who also holds the tourism portfolio, chaired a meeting last week to finalise the four-day programme for the eagerly awaited fun and frolic extravaganza. The parades would also be held at Vasco and Margao. While government is gearing up for tourism-inclined float parades, the Goan villagers will be hosting traditional festivities marking the carnival. Khell tiatr, a conventional form of theatre, would be performed in most of the South Goan villages during the annual festivities.
