India has decided to upgrade security at airports by inducting latest security technologies in view of growing threat perceptions. "The agencies concerned have been directed to upgrade the security systems at the airports. The upgrading will be implemented in a phased manner," Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said. The measures include deployment of online X-ray baggage screening system at all airports in a phased manner, starting with international airports. The "hyper-sensitive" airports - Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad - would be provided with biometric system, perimeter intrusion security system and improved CCTV coverage, the minister said.
