Continental Airlines in talks with Indian airlines
After recording a high passenger load factor on their non-stop flights, US carrier Continental Airlines today said it was in talks with Indian airlines to explore bilateral code share arrangements.
"We already have interline agreements with Jet Airways and Kingfisher. We are now exploring opportunities for code share and other bilateral arrangements with Indian carriers", James J Summerford, the airline's Vice President (Europe, Middle East and India) said. He, however, did not disclose the names of the Indian carriers, with which Continental was in discussions on grounds of business confidentiality. Continental, which launched the first non-stop direct flights between India and the US almost a year ago, was studying the demand from Indian cities but had no plans for the moment to launch flights from destinations other than Delhi, Summerford said. The airline currently operates daily flights on the Delhi-Newark sector with a Boeing 777-200 ER (extended range), with 48 seats in the Business First and 235 in Economy. "We are exploring other Indian cities but have no plans to launch operations from anywhere else at this moment", he said in response to questions.
