Qantas to outsource IT jobs to India

Australia's national carrier Qantas will outsource its IT jobs to Satyam Computer Services Ltd and Tata Consulting Services.

The move will result in the loss of 340 jobs in Australia, but will lead to cost saving, according to reports.

"We will outsource our IT applications support and maintenance operations to Satyam Computer Services Ltd and Tata Consulting Services," Qantas chief executive, Geoff Dixon said. "The transition to Satyam and Tata would take place over a period of 15 months starting from November," Dixon said.

"Satyam and Tata have established operations in Australia, with a third of the positions undertaking Qantas work to remain onshore," he said.

Dixon argued that Australia was itself importing workers due to a nationwide skills shortage while thousands of Australians were living and working overseas, reports the Australian.
Presently, the airlines has more than 37,000 staff on its payroll.
