Kingfisher Airlines goes mobile
At the Miramar Beach, not many people seemed to take special notice of the a bright red colored Maruti Omni parked amongst the cars. Must be a brand promotion gimmick, many might think. But on closer observation, it turns out that the van is not a promotion gimmick but an innovation in itself. Kingfisher Airlines has now hit the roads so as to speak, by launching a mobile ticketing van on the roads. Inside the van, sits a Kingfisher employee (who refused to identify herself due to company policies) armed with a laptop and wireless Tata Phone through which she connects into the Sabre ticketing system of the airline. “Through the Internet, I am locked in on a VPN connection with Kingfisher master system and I can book tickets on the go itself,” the employee in distinctive red uniform informs.
There are two ways of making payment, namely cash and credit card, and the customer is immediately given a confirmed printout like an e-ticket. So how has been the response till date? If one were to go by her comments, customers have quite liked the freedom offered by the mobile booking van. “We have registered over 8000 tickets in the past few months of trial itself,” she adds. The van is currently parked at different tourist hotspots over the day, starting from Madgoan, it proceeds its way depending on the time of the day and the crowds on the beach. Incidentally, the van bears a Mumbai registration number plate, “that is because we had launched this van in Mumbai first, but there were a few issues namely, that of parking etc., hence the management decided to shift the van to Goa,” adds the lady in red.
