AI & SATS to set up cargo handling facility at Bangalore


Air India Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. V Thulasidas today laid the foundation stone of the state-of-the-art cargo handling facility at the new Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL). The project to be jointly developed by Air India (AI) and Singapore Airport Terminal Services Ltd. (SATS) will have two ware house floors with a gross floor area of 18,000 sqm. It will have a design capacity to handle more than 150,000 tonnes of Cargo. As part of this joint venture, AI SATS aims to bring in the necessary professional expertise to build, operate and maintain the cargo facility, thereby achieving excellent domestic & international cargo operations. Both the entities will jointly invest more than Rs.80 Crores in the development of this project.

Speaking about the new cargo facility, Mr. V Thulasidas, Chairman and Managing Director, Air India said, “Today, Bangalore has become the most important destination in India. With this joint venture with SATS, we will develop state of the art cargo handling facility at the new Bangalore International Airport.” Equipped with the latest Material Handling System (MHS), this new facility will be able to handle general, perishable and specialized cargo including courier and mail. The MHS will also have an integrated computer system for tracking cargo within the warehouse. This will ensure quick processing for delivery and acceptance of cargo.
