Spicejet to start Kolkata-Hyderabad-Bangalore flight

Private low cost airline Spicejet will connect Kolkata to Hyderabad, besides introducing an additional flight to Bangalore, with the newly inducted Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the Kolkata-Bangalore-Hyderabad route from February 4. "Introduction of this additional new flight has been made in order to improve the connectivity from Kolkata," Spicejet's Vice President, Marketing, Sanjay Kumar said after announcing the new routes. As part of its further expansion in the East and North East, the airline has plans to introduce a flight to Port Blair by June-end this year, besides connecting Agartala, Bagdogra and Dibrugarh soon, Kumar said. With these flights, the airline's eight flights daily at present would be enhanced to 16 flights daily by the end of June this year.

Spicejet is now operating in Delhi, Chennai, Guwahati and Bangalore. Describing the new flight from Kolkata, as part of the airline's expansion plan countrywide, Kumar said that Spicejet would increase its operation from 85 flights a day by 11 aircraft at present to 260 flights a day by 26 aircraft by the end of 2008. Spicejet would also be looking towards setting up its maintenance base in Kolkata after Delhi and thus looking for a hanger space in the city airport within this year, he said. By the end of 2007, Spicejet's operation would increase to 160 flights a day by 18 aircraft with a seat capacity of 25,000 daily. The airline's present seat capacity 15,000 per day, he said.
