Indigo takes delivery of new A-320 aircraft
No-frill airline IndiGo, which has expressed intention to buy 100 Airbus aircraft, today took delivery of its sixth brand new A-320 aircraft, saying it would induct nine more in 2007 and take its fleet strength to 40 by 2010. "Within five months of launch of IndiGo's revenue operations, we have taken delivery of our sixth A-320 aircraft," the airline's President and CEO Bruce Ashby said at the Airbus headquarters in Toulouse, France, after taking the delivery. He said the new aircraft would be used to introduce new services on the Kolkata-Mumbai and Kolkata-Jaipur sectors. IndiGo would take delivery of nine additional A-320s next year, taking the fleet to 15 planes in 2007. It would have a 40 all-A320 fleet by 2010 with which it plans to serve 30 Indian cities. All the A-320s in the IndiGo fleet are in a single-class configuration of 180 seats.
