New international terminal at Kozhikode

The new international terminal at Karipur airport near here will be declared open on January 15, a top official said. More foreign airlines will be allowed to operate from the airport to enable availability of additional services, Airport Director A Veerasamy said.

Noting that the check-in immigration counters would be doubled soon, Veerasamy said with the launch of the new international terminal, passenger traffic was expected to go up considerably as four flights could land and depart at the same time. The number of international flights operating from the airport has seen a sharp increase from 1,856 flights in 1995-96 to 4,307 in 2005-06, he said, adding the airport's revenue had also surged to Rs 44,44 crore in 2005-06 from 14.83 crore in 2001-02. The international and domestic flights operating from the airport put together had also risen from 5862 in 1995-96 to 11,134 now, he said.
