Finnair brings Santa to India
Official Finnish airline Finnair, in a promotional campaign after launching last month its maiden service linking Helsinki and New Delhi, brought the 'real' Santa Claus from the Arctic Circle. "I am here to bring cheer and happiness. India is a land dear to me. I get millions of letters from here every year in my home at Lapland in Finland," 'Santa Claus' said with the trademark sparkling and serene smile.
According to the Finnish folklore, Santa Claus is not a mythical figure but exists in flesh and blood in Lapland. "Santa Claus is the brand ambassador of Finnair," Taina Tornstrom, director (Indian subcontinent) of Finnair said. Santa Claus said he knew it was not yet Christmas time. "But I will meet a lot of children here and I have brought them lots of gifts and presents." He would visit some Delhi schools on Friday.
Finnair president J.A. Hienonen said: "Finnair, which started with a frequency of three flights a week, will expand it by the summer of 2007 to at least five times a week. "The Helsinki-New Delhi sector is the shortest between Europe and India. So, it is of genuine interest to travellers between these destinations. We have quick connectivity to other cities in Europe as well," he added.
