Airport security norms gets tougher

The government has imposed new security guidelines for hand-baggage and items bought at duty-free outlets, for all airline passengers flying out of India.

As per the new norms goods bought at duty-free shops should be packed in transparent and re-sealable bags. Also, they should be accompanied by an invoice providing all details related of the purchase including the passport number of the customer. Under the new guidelines, single passenger is allowed to carry a maximum of 500 ml of liquid in containers of 100 ml each on board. All liquids and gels have to be carried in transparent and re-sealable bags. The airport operators and the duty-free outlets are required to provide transparent bags to passengers. The guidelines have been imposed on both domestic and international flights departing from India. These guidelines come under the ambit of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), which has 180 nations as its member. Similar guidelines already exist in Europe, Canada and the US.
