Air Sahara to fly to Male, Maldives
Air Sahara is now getting aggressive in the overseas market. The airline announced the addition of Male (Maldives) to its international route network. Air Sahara said it will start flight from Delhi to Male, via Colombo, on November 29. As an introductory offer, the airline has priced its return ticket on the Delhi-Colombo route for Rs 12,000, while the Delhi-Male (Maldives)return fare has been fixed at Rs 17,000 — the lowest being offered by any airline on this route. "This flight will also make Air Sahara the only airline to launch a direct flight between Delhi and Colombo. This is in addition to our existing daily Delhi-Colombo flight via Chennai,"Air Sahara president Alok Sharma said. The airline has also tied up with hotels both in Colombo and Male to offer travel packages, including air tickets, for Rs 14,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
In addition, the airline is also preparing to start direct flights to Guangzhou (China) and Dhaka. "And, as and when the skies to Pakistan are opened up for private airlines from India, we would like to operate on this route as well,"he said. This is the first major overseas expansion plan unveiled by the airline since its six-months-in-the-works marriage with larger rival Jet Airways fell through in June this year. "We have already made the financial commitments for a major expansion back in 2005. Under this plan, we were to induct new Boeing 737-800 aircraft. With these new planes joining our fleet and the airline improving the aircraft utilisation of its existing fleet, we will be able to spread our wings in the international skies without any major capital outgo,"Sharma added further.
