Nepal launches campaign to attract tourists
Seeking to attract more Indian tourists, the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has launched a new promotion campaign that promotes the country's Pokhara region as a must-see destination. 'Visit Pokhara Year 2007' campaign coupled with NTB's new brand 'Naturally Nepal-Once is not enough' was expected to give a tremendous boost to tourism, the board's marketing and promotion director Nandini Lahe Thapa said. The campaign was expected to find favour especially with the religiously inclined tourists from south India, she said. Historically being a pristine place for meditation and salvation, Nepal was attracting a huge number of Indians to visit places like the Shiva Temple and Sri Pashupatinath Temple or pilgrimage tours to Kailash Mansarovar, she said. She said the new brand was a reflection of the commitment to the need and demands of large sections of high and medium Indian tourists visiting Nepal. "Now NTB will work closely with regional travel agents in order to penetrate new segments of consumer market which has a great potential and also liaise with the tourists," she added. Indian tourists accounted for 33 per cent of the tourists to the kingdom last year.
