Pune Airport may be temporarily shut next year

The Indian Air Force (IAF) may have to temporarily shut down Pune's Lohegaon airport in 2007 for the much-needed re-carpeting of the runway. The airport could close for a few days to a few months, depending on whether the authorities adopt a piece-meal approach or decide to complete the work without any interruptions. A senior IAF official said that the runway closure was inevitable and “only the period of the closure is being worked out”. The repair work is likely to be taken up before or after the monsoon, the official said.
