Jet Airways to start daily flights to Bangkok
Jet Airways, India's largest private airline, said it will launch direct daily flights to Bangkok from New Delhi and Kolkata from Jan 23. "Bangkok will be the 50th destination on our network and the third destination in the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region," said Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, the chief executive of the airline. "Jet Airways will be operating 14 direct flights per week to Bangkok, seven each from Delhi and Kolkata," he said. "Our Delhi-Bangkok flight will offer convenient early morning connections to Bangkok and from there onward to other cities in the region. Kolkata will serve as the gateway to Buddhist destinations in eastern India." The service will start with an inaugural return airfare of Rs.6,500 on economy class in the Kolkata-Bangkok sector for a two months and Rs.13,500 between New Delhi and Bangkok. The airline - which presently has a fleet of 58 aircraft and operates some 330 flights to 49 destinations in India and abroad - will use a Boeing 737-800 aircraft for the India-Thailand operations. The airline plans to extend its operations to North America, Europe, Africa and Asia in the next couple of years with the induction of wide-bodied aircraft into its fleet.
