Normal flight operations in Delhi today
Air travellers heaved a sigh of relief as flights operated on schedule today after being disrupted for two consecutive days due to dense fog. The weather was relatively clear this morning in comparison with the last two days when the Indira Gandhi International Airport was in the grip of a dense fog for over three hours. The Runway Visibility Range (RVR) had touched a minimum of 1,000 meters this morning and improved steadily after sunrise, the weather office at the airport said. Following chaos at the Delhi airport due to fog, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation issued additional guidelines giving precedence to CAT III B compliant aircraft to operate. "Flights were operating as per schedule. There were no disruptions due to fog today," airport sources said.
However, flight operations at Kolkata were affected due to the general strike called by Left-affliated trade unions against the UPA government's economic policies. The minimum temperature in the capital rose slightly to 8.5 degrees Celsius, which was a degree above normal. The maximum temperature yesterday was 20.8 degrees Celsius, which was three degrees below normal. The weatherman has forecast shallow fog during the day, mainly clear skies in the afternoon and low temperatures after sunset. "The temperatures could dip further during the night as due cold winds blowing from the north-west direction," he said. The north-westerlies were blowing at a speed of nine km/hour at 10:30 a.M. Bringing with them the winter chill from the mountains.
