Kuwait Airways flies into Ahmedabad

With more and more Gujaratis making international trips, Ahmedabad is fast becoming a chosen destination for international airlines. After Singapore Airline, Kuwait Airways has formally started operations from Ahmedabad.

The Director of SVBP International Airport, S D Avasthi said the number of international passengers flying from Ahmedabad has gone up significantly. ‘‘While, the international airlines are starting to fly from Ahmedabad, Kingfisher has tied up with Delta, and will fly from Mumbai to Ahmedabad late in the night to facilitate Gujarati passengers who come from New York,’’ said Avasthi. It may be noted here that Ahmedabad is now directly connected with Kuwait, London, Muscat, New York, Paris, Sharjah and Singapore.

Addressing the local media, Fahad Al Dhafiri, senior regional director, Kuwait Airways, said the airline has started flights from Ahmedabad as part of a bilateral agreement between India and Kuwait. The airline is also setting up office in Ahmedabad. ‘‘We have linked up with the local travel agents to attract customers,’’ Dhafiri said. Ahmedabad will be the sixth Indian city connected to Kuwait Airways network the others being Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi, said Dhafiri. Kuwait International Airport receives about 5 lakh Indian travellers every year, said Dhafiri adding that a significant chunk of these travellers are from Gujarat.
