Kolkata airport runway being repaired, flights diverted

Eight flights, including two international ones, were diverted from the N.S.C Bose International Airport here today due to major repair works on the main runway. "These are all planned diversions and all operators were intimated by a NOTAM (notice to airmen) about a month back that the main runway would not be operative from 11.50 am to 1.20 pm today due to emergency repair works," Airport Director V K Monga said.

The secondary runway also remained inoperational as it was undergoing repair and extension work that would be completed by March, he said. Normal operations resumed at 1.30 pm when the main runway was opened for landing and take-off, Monga said. Due to the diversions, the Air India flight from London to Kolkata was sent to Delhi, while a flight of private Bangladesh airlines GMG from Dhaka was sent back.
