Kingfisher Airlines appoints Regency as General Sales Agent in Doha
Kingfisher Airlines has appointed Regency Travel and Tours as its general sales agent (GSA) in Qatar. This was announced at a presentation jointly made by the airline and Regency, the biggest tours solutions provider in the country.
Kingfisher Airlines’ Deputy General Manager (international sales) Arjundas Gupta pointed out that the Indian airline, which began with just four daily flights in May 2005, today offered 116 daily flights connecting 19 key Indian business and leisure destinations. The airline commands a national market share of 8.8% and has won three awards from Aviation Experts, Aviation Business Research Analysts and Travel and Tourism Writers, he added. It has also been ranked the third most successful brand launch of 2005 by Indian newspaper Business Standard, Gupta said. Kingfisher provides “aviation hospitality”, he stressed. The Gulf region is a strategic market for Kingfisher given the heavy traffic flow between the GCC and India, Gupta said.
It already participates in the local Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP). With the commercial partnership between the airline and Regency, ticket sales from Qatar would grow rapidly, he added. However, the airline’s existing facility of direct online booking of tickets by passengers will continue, he said. Kingfisher is part of the UB Group, one of India’s largest conglomerates with a turnover of more than $2bn. The group, with diverse interests, is led by Vijay Mallya. The presentation, at Regency Hall, was attended by Regency Chairman Ibrahim al-Asmak, operations manager N M Shafiq, Kingfisher’s international sales manager Sonali Saigal, travel agency professionals and diplomats.
