Goa expects 10,000 tourists daily during IFFI

About 10,000 domestic tourists are expected every day in Goa during the 10-day International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to be held from November 23. "We have noticed that during the 10 days of the festival, there is a tremendous increase in domestic tourists visiting the state.
This time too we expect the phenomenon to be repeated and an average 10,000 tourists each day will visit Goa during this period," Fatima De Sa, chairperson of Goa Tourism Development Corporation, said. Post-IFFI, Goa gets into the peak tourist season which culminates with the New Year celebrations.

"There is a rush during Christmas and all our (hotels) are full right from now till New Year," De Sa said. The Corporation has 13 properties in the state. The hospitality industry too feels that there is a lot of activity during the IFFI. "The festival is growing every year and undoubtedly, it has crossed the boundaries of being just a film festival. It has become a tourist attraction," said Santhosh R Kutty, general manager of Taj Holiday Village, a venture of Taj Leisure Hotels. Taj Holiday Village and Fort Aguada Resort, both owned by Taj Leisure Hotels are festival hotels for the IFFI. "We have blocked 100 rooms in both our properties for IFFI guests," Kutty said.
