Air Deccan adds 20th Airbus to its fleet


Low-cost airliner, Air Deccan today added its 20th brand new Airbus A-320 to its fleet taking the airline’s fleet strength to 44. An Air Deccan statement said the new Airbus would be based in Kolkata and would help in Air Deccan’s expansion plans of providing enhanced low fare travel options and increased connectivity. The Airbus had an all economy seating with a seat capacity of 180. The new aircraft would be inducted into the schedule on July 10 with introduction of new flights out of Kolkata. The new aircraft would increase frequency from Kolkata to Vishakapatnam, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Bhubaneshwar. A new sector Kolkata-Vishakapatnam would be introduced by the airline. This route was not serviced by any other airline and Air Deccan would be the only airline connecting Kolkata to Vishakapatnam.

Bookings for the new flights would open tomorrow. Air Deccan Chief executive officer statement, Ramki Sundaram said in the, "safety and on-time performance is the most important commitment to our passengers. The induction of brand new aircraft with increased efficiency will ensure that we deliver our promise. The A-320 comes with the latest technology, powered by the IAE V 2527 A5 engines and is a highly dependable aircraft ensuring complete safety and reliability". He said Air Deccan had the largest market share in the Kolkata region with over 70 flights and loads averaging 85 per cent. At present Air Deccan had seven aircraft based at Kolkata and the new airbus would be the eighth. Kolkata was the largest base for Air Deccan’s ATR operations.
