Indian to expand operations globally this summer

Public sector carrier Indian will launch a daily service between Ahmedabad and Muscat from April 2 and convert the existing thrice-a-week flight to Muscat from Delhi via the Gujarat capital to a direct one. The new daily Ahmedabad flight to the Omani capital would operate via Mumbai, while the Delhi-Muscat service would continue to operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, an Indian spokesperson said. With the introduction of the new flight, Muscat would be connected to Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Kochi,
Kozhikode and Hyderabad.

The state-owned carrier links 16 Indian cities to eight Gulf destinations and nine Indian cities to three major Southeast Asian destinations. The airline would induct 20 Airbus A-321s, 18 A-329s and four A-320s, nine of which would be joining its 74-strong current fleet this year itself. With concrete plans to expand its operations, Indian has also decided to lease two wide-bodied A-330 planes with which it plans to start international operations to the Australian city of Melbourne and Guangzhou in China. These two aircraft are expected to join the fleet in October this year. The airline is also planning to lease six regional jets this year.
